Can you believe it’s been over a decade since FRC 180 S.P.A.M. Robotics stole the show at the 87th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade? On November 28, 2013, our team—fresh off our 2012 World Championship win—marched into history as one of five elite FIRST Robotics Competition teams chosen to kick off the parade in New York City. With millions watching, our robot cut the ribbon and showered confetti along a 2.5-mile route, proving S.P.A.M.’s Speed, Power, and Maneuverability on a global stage!

This wasn’t just a parade—it was a moment. Supported by Southwest Airlines and FedEx, we joined teams like Texas Torque, whose “SONIC” robot shared the ribbon-cutting honors. Together, we showcased STEM innovation to 3.5 million live spectators and 50 million TV viewers. Back then, our 27-year journey (and counting!) was already turning heads, and this parade spotlight, announced on November 7, 2013, was a dream come true.

Relive the magic with us! Check out the full press release below, and don’t miss the videos—our ribbon-cutting thrill and the full march down Herald Square.
